Inspired by a vintage Tultex raglan sleeve crewneck and the clubbing scenes of Berlin, this design challenged me to combine two distinct design languages into one. I wanted a garment that was sleek and bold. While sketching, I found the hoodie and pocket to be the points of outward expression, and the fit was where I could rely on history. The overlapping hoodie design was inspired aesthetically by dingy alleys filled with EDM and drug deals. It was practically inspired to treat the chronic neck pain shared by my father and I while wearing a hoodie. At this point in the sketching, the garment felt disjointed and chaotic. To treat this, I designed the pocket so that the angles matched the raglan seam and added back paneling with seams converging at the neck, subconsciously bringing clarity to the piece as a whole. I chose a light fleece so this piece could be worn year-round, blending in with the wearer. The color is a more vibrant pink than its reference, breathing life into this forgotten design style. I am incredibly pleased with the outcome and believe the piece truly speaks for itself.
